Show FIRST STREET CAR LINE Manager Campbell Wants to Abandon It and Improve Im-prove Other Routes. The First street car line may be abandoned. "We want to cut out the First street line and improve the Brlgbam and Third street lines." said General Manager Mana-ger Robert S. Campbell of the Utah Light and Railway company. ' "If the City Council will dedicate First street, and- the residents along that street so desire, we will put a seven-minute service on the Brlgham street line and a ten-minute service on the Third street line. Both Brlaham an Thlnl itrut line will be DUt Into first-class shape. The mileage lost by cutting out the First street line can be easily added to different lines in Salt Lake. The company has had this proposition prop-osition under consideration for a long time. The First street line Is the poorest poor-est paying line In the city. We are losing, los-ing, in round figures, $500 each month in its operation. "Should First street be set aside by the City Council as a private street, steps would be taken towards improving improv-ing the Fort Douglas service. One of the propositions under contemplation by the company is a loop, extending from West street on Fourth to the fort and back to town on the Second 8outh line. As it Is now, the First street line meanders around the foot of the hill before striking out for the post Improvements Planned. "If the First street line is cut out the Brlgham street tracks will be built to V street, or, as It is sometimes called, West street. Turning on V street the line would run to Fourth street end then follow the present route to th fort, changing In course slightly to gain an entrance into the cut now used as a terminal for the Second South line. The Second 8outh service to the fort would be dropped with the adoption of the loop and the cars run only to Mount Olivet cemetery. "The Government owns a small neck of land on West, or V. streets, between Second South and Fourth streets, but the company will have no trouble securing se-curing a right of way across this land. The abandonment of the First street line and the Improvement of the Brig-ham Brig-ham and Third street lines will follow the people's ssking." |
