Show ESCAPES FROM TRAIN Colorado County Clerk Flees Rather Than Produce Pro-duce Ballot-Box.. DENVER, Feb. 14. Deputies from the Sheriffs office and detectives from police headquarters are searching the city for Juan De Dios Montez, County Clerk of Huerfano county, who, while in custody of Mose Vianecourt, ser-geant-at-arms of the Legislative committee com-mittee Investigating the gubernatorial contest, escaped from a Rio Grande train and disappeared in the darkness lust night. Vianecourt, acting under instructions of Chairman William H. Griffith of the committee, was returning to Walsen-burg Walsen-burg with Montez for the purpose of compelling' h'lm to produce before the committee' the ballot-box of precinct 23 of Huerfano county, where Democrats charge astounding frauds in the interest inter-est of Peabody were committed. As j the train was leaving the city Montez left his seat beside Vianecourt, rushed out of the door and leaped from the platform. Vianecourt did not pursue Montez. but continued on his Journey, reporting the incident to Chairman Griffith' by wire from Sedalla, a station sta-tion about forty miles from Denver. It is stated that if Montez is captured cap-tured he will be charged with contempt. Montez refused to honor two subpoenas sub-poenas to appear before the contest committee with the ballot-box In question, ques-tion, but finally came to Denver when the sergeant-at-arms threatened to arrest ar-rest and carry him before the committee. com-mittee.
