Show JAMES A. TAWNEY TO BE THE CHAIRMAN CHICAGO. Nov. 13. A dispatch to the Tribune from Washington, D. C. says: It was said yesterday on excellent authority that Representative James A. Tawney of Minnesota will be named by Speaker C&nnon as chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, succeeding James A. Hemenway, who became a Senator from Indiana on the election of Vice-President Fairbanks to his present office. Mr. Tawney was a member of the Ways and Means committee in the last Congress, and for a number of years has been a Republican "whip," serving In that capacity under Speakers Henderson Hen-derson and Cannon. He is aggressive, and has a large personal following in the House of Representatives. |
