Show PERKINS IS CfflTOED AFTER LONG CHttSE; TO BE RETURNED FOR TRIAL Sheriff C. Frank Emery will leave for Portland. Or., this evening with the necessary papers to bring back to Salt Lake Fred H. Perkins, 'who was arrested arrest-ed in the exposition city Saturday, and j who Is wanted in this city on the charge of embezzlement.' . The arrest is the result of nearly six 1 months work on the part of the Sher- iff and his deputies. - On June 1 a com-, com-, plaint wag sworn to before the County i Attorney by R. C. Vincent, charging 1 Perkins with embezzling the sum of $10,000, the same being the property of i the Black Rock Mining company, a cor-1 cor-1 poratlon of the State of South Dakota. Perkins 'got wind of the complaint and before he could be arrested left for parts unknown and for the last six months the officers have tried to locate him. : Perkins arrived in Salt Lake about a year ago as consulting engineer of 'the Black Rock Mining company, whose properties are located in Arizona. The officers of the company had full confidence confi-dence in his honesty and ability. It is alleged that from time to time he would send to the head office of the company reports of the work done on the mining property with vouchers for the same, the latter being paid without question for some time.- " In the latter part of May. R. C. Vincent, Vin-cent, a heavy stockholder of the company, com-pany, paid a visit to Salt Lake. Some of the accounts of Perkins did not look good to him and he started an investigation, investi-gation, particularly on one voucher for $500 which had been paid. for. work alleged al-leged to have been done by the Donald McDonald Printing company of this city. Mr. Vincent soon found that no such firm had an existence in this city and that no such printing as the voucher called for had been done for the company. . ' Upon recleving . this information he sought the services of Sheriff Emery and the County Attorney, -with the result re-sult that he swore to a complaint charging Perkins with embezzling $10.-000 $10.-000 of the -cempanys money. It is claimed that. Perkins received $20,000 from the mining company, of which amount he spent one-half on the work being done by the company In development de-velopment and necessary expenses. Perkins fath'er was formerly a partner part-ner in the banking firm of Oosney & Perkins of Flagstaff. Ariz., but Is claimed to have severed bis connection with the bank with a broken heart on account of the actions of his son. Perkins's wife is a resident of Kansas City, Mo. He will be brought back to Salt Lake to stand trial on the charge preferred against him by Mr. Vincent. |
