Show BICYCLE RIDER VERSUS BURGLAR Spkd Merchant Hopper . Had an Exciting time y With a Cracksman. Norman C. Hopper, the well-known bicycle rider, has proven that he could handle a burglar as well as he could push a pair of pedals around the focal saucer. The burglar affair took place Saturday night and, according to Mr. Hopper, was as follows: , Returning home with his wife about p. m. he saw a. figure crouched against the side of the house. Not wishing to alarm his .wife, he allows her to enter the bou and making an' excuse that he wquld be in in a minute, -went to the side of the house where he bad' seen the stooping, figure. Mr. Burglar was thete .ail right, and the plucky rider made a grab tor him, only to be met with the gleam of an trgly-looklng knife . in the hands of the intruder; Hopper backed away until his foot truck a piece of board. This he picked up and went for the man, trying to back i him into a position where he could hold - ' him until he could summon assistance. V 1 The man, however, did not take kindly Jt to this idea and made a bolt for liberty, j In which he was successful. Upon entering the house Hopper found that some one had been there during the absence of the family, though nothing was missing, the -man evidently becoming frightened before he had a chance to complete his work. The matter was reported to the police. |
