| Show CHURCH CLASH ENDS IN APOLOGY V VALETTA ALETTA Malta June 3 Lord P P Lord Strickland prime minister of Malta put an end to the long dispute between between be- be tween the state and the church by tendering an apology today to the bishop ishop of Malta for his antagonism to the he authority of or the church As a result the bishops withdrew a pastoral letter issued in May 1930 enjoining the Catholic electorate to refrain from voting for the Strickland party fn in the elections which were to have been held at that time The bitter dispute led to suspension of the constitution in June 1930 and since that time Malta has been admin by the governor and com- com chief ln of the British forces In his apology the premier himself a n Catholic wrote that he regretted he had clashed with the authority of the church In defending himself against his political opponents |
