Show Check On Ranges Show Deer, Elk Have Wintered Well The deer and elk have wintered well on those winter ranges which have already been checked by the Utah Fish and Game Department, according to Ross Leonard, Utah Fish and Game Director. Spring counts were completed this week on parts of the Manti and Dixie National Forests. The Mantil count showed about the same number of deer in the Little Joe's Valley area. The game animals ani-mals were in small bunches and were found high in the hills leading lead-ing back off the lowland winter ranges. The deer were in good flesh condition. Elk have not gone into the high country on the Manti as yet, Leonard said. Recent snows have kept these animals lower down than is usually the case at this time of the year. Seventy head of elk were counted on the Manti range. The counts were made by the Game Department, U. S. Forest Service, sportsmen's groups, cattlemen cat-tlemen and sheepmen. |
