The approximately 500 delegates to the convention also elected 109 delegates to the state convention and seven members to the state central committee. Mitchell Melich, state senator from Grand county, in delivering the keynote address, charged that the present state administration has used the sales tax and welfare program for political purposes. In defending welfare legislation passed by the recent special session ses-sion of the legislature, he declared that if welfare roles kept growing at the present rate the state in 10' years would have 75,000 persons per-sons on such roles and they would constitute an insupportable burden on public finance.
