Show PRIZE CALVES GO TO MAPLETON BOYS Three Mapleton boys have a fine start in the livestock business as a result of attending the state junior livestock show at Spanish Fork, according to W. H. Anderson, Ander-son, high school Ag. instructor. A number of individuals this year donated purebred Hereford steers for a calf scramble. From 200 boys attending the show, 20 were lucky enough to get in the ring with the calves. When a boy caught a calf, unassisted, and led it out of the ring, it was his calf. The Springville Banking company compa-ny contributed one calf and Dean Tew of Mapleton was the lucky "catcher" of this calf. He will feed the animal, keep a record of it and report its progress to the bank, and then exhibit it in next spring's stock show. The other two calves caught by Mapleton boys were given by the Provo Chamber of Commerce and caught by Fred Tew, and the California Cal-ifornia Packing company, caught by Paul Larsen. The calf-catching contest was a highlight of the show, and enjoyed en-joyed by the boys and others attending. |
