Show City Far Below Quota In War Bond Drive Purchase Of E Bonds Totaled $42,850 Tuesday Noon;, Clubs And Individuals Urged To Support Queens Citizens of Springville will have to dig deeper into their savings sav-ings accounts or perhaps make some sacrifices, if the city's quota of E bonds is reached during the Seventh Big War Bond Drive. This is the opinion of the gen- eral committee and other workers, who are spending many hours of time and effort to make the drive a success. A check on the number of bonds purchased was made by J. A. Miller, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday noon, and it' indicated that only $42,850 in E bonds have been purchased during dur-ing the drive thus far. The quota for the city is $174,425. Also, a count of votes cast for the Springville queen candidates Tuesday noon, indicated that neither nei-ther of the queen candidates being be-ing sponsored by the Kiwanis club, the Lions club or the Junior Cham" ber of Commerce and Jaycees Wives have as yet qualified. A minimum of 267 votes, or $5,000 in bonds, is necessary before a queen candidate qualifies for the contest. .The Utah county queen contest chairniAii stated on Wednesday that the queens,. ",;ve until June 20, the close of the -ntest, to qualify but the entry date nr queen candidates closed Monday, May 21. According to a check of the queen votes Tuesday noon, Miss Helen Christensen, sponsored by the Kiwanis club, has 79 votes; Miss Louise Clyde, sponsored by the Lions club, 240 votes; Mrs. Shirley Mendenhall Child, sponsored spon-sored by the Junior Chamber and Jaycee Wives, 261 votes. There were also two votes cast for Miss Helen Bunnell, making her an entry en-try in the queen contest. As the contest progresses, some keen competition is expected but in the meantime, townspeople are asked to get behind their choice for queen and purchase bonds, not only to place her in the lead but to help meet this city's quota.
