Show Shortage of Phones To Supply Jobs Unprecedented shortage of civilian civ-ilian telephones, which the American Ameri-can Telephone and Telegraph Co. is unable to overcome while its products pro-ducts go for war purposes, will require $1 billion or more in new equipment after the war, Walter S. Gifford, president, declares. Mr. Gifford reports there are 1,800,000 applications for telephone tele-phone service unfilled for lack of facilities. The company - will need many additional workers for a long time to supply the demand. |
