Show TRUMAN RESISTS APPOINTMENTS THROUGH PRESSURE President Truman has reappointed reap-pointed David E. Lilienthal as the chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority, despite the opposition of Senator McKellar of Tennessee, ho has been gunning not only for Lilienthal but the entire T. V. A. President Roosevelt, it as certain, cer-tain, would have renominated the able chairman of the authority which has done so much to revolutionize revo-lutionize life in the region affected affect-ed by its giant operations. We do not know the reason for the antipathy that the Tennessee Senator displays toward the authority au-thority but we do know that it would be a tragic event if political pressure should lead to any curtailment cur-tailment of the scope and power of the entire program. The TV A has accomplished many things, being regarded as a model of such governmental projects. pro-jects. It should be kept out of politics, even if its officials have not been able to please some politicians. |
