Show s jGame Department Seeks To Acquire Hatchery Congress willing, the Utah Fish and Game department will acquire the abandoned federal fish hatchery hatch-ery near Laketown, south of Bear Lake. This announcement was made by Game Director, Ross Leonard, who received word today from the Utah Congressional Delegation that a draft is being prepared for transfer of the property to . the Utah department and that the draft will be presented to Congress Con-gress as soon as possible for Congressional Con-gressional action. Draft for the transfer is being made by Donald J. Chaney, chief counsel, Fish and Wildlife Service. Congress convened January 6. The hatchery setup, according to Mr. Leonard, consists of two abandoned houses, some small ponds and 17 acres of land. Water originates at a spring near the hatchery site. The Fish and Wildlife- Service used the plant to produce rainbow trout, according to Mr. Leonard. Utah, however, will make a thorough study of the water, its temperature and its content to determine de-termine to what use the whole plant can be put. Many of the troughs and pipes have been removed re-moved or destroyed, the game chief explained, which will necessitate neces-sitate some state expense to put the fish factory in working order in the event the Beehive State succeeds in obtaining the site. |
