Show BUSINESS HAS 7 INCREASED AT PROVO HOSPITAL , Advancement of plans for the proposed new, Utah Valley hospital hos-pital wing and a report of greatly-increased business at the institution insti-tution highlighted the monthly meeting of the hospital executive board. I. E. Brockbank, board chairman, chair-man, reported that Commonwealth Fund architects are completing plans for the new wing and these will be forwarded to Provo soon. The board expressed the desire to push the project as rapidly as possible and authorized Mr. JBrock-bank JBrock-bank to sign papers agreeing that the hospital will meet certain specified requirements if a grant from the federal government is approved. The board is confident of securing a grant for one-third of the total cost of the expansion from the government under the Hill-Burton act, it was pointed out. Currently the hospital has about $90,000 toward the project, this having been raised through a fund drive conducted some two years ago, according to Clayton Jenkins, secretary-treasurer. Contributions have been asked from the LDS church and the Geneva Steel company. com-pany. It is hoped to raise the balance bal-ance needed for the expansion through a popular subscription campaign later. In his monthly report to the board, John H. Zenger, hospital superintendent, showed a sharp increase in-crease in business at the institution. institu-tion. During November, 324 patients were admitted, making 4047 for the 11-month period in 1947, compared com-pared with 3145 for the corresponding corres-ponding period last year. Patient days totaled 2078 in November, No-vember, 22,388 for the 11 months, and 22,601 for the same period in 1946. There were 93 births during the month, 1198 for the 11-month period, per-iod, and 913 for the corresponding period last year. This amounts to a 31.2 per cent increase this year. Major operations totaled 54 in i November, 677 for the year compared com-pared with 475 last year, while there were 76 minor operations for the month, bringing the 11-month total to 816, nearly double the 465 for the same period in 1946. |
