Show WARNING GIVEN ON BAD CHECKS FOR FARM PRODUCE The issuing of bad checks for farm produce and livestock is definitely def-initely on the up-swing and we have every reason to expect this trend to continue, says a report from the State Department of Agriculture. Ag-riculture. The Department recognizes recog-nizes the fact that producers are subject to unusual hazards and losses in dealing with persons who purchase this produce for resale on a speculative basis. The Produce Dealers' Act requires re-quires that any person acting as a commission merchant, dealer, broker, processor or agent shall be required to secure a license from the State Dept. of Agriculture, giving the Department full information infor-mation regarding his business operation. op-eration. The law provides that the Department De-partment assists producers in collecting col-lecting bad checks, or to otherwise help in straightening out a bad account ac-count of some type or another. But this is extremely difficult when we have no knowledge of the persons per-sons involved. The Department can best assist you with the cooperation co-operation of every food and livestock live-stock producer within the state. Tour assistance would merely con- sist of requesting the person who offers to purchase the produce to show his credentials, license to purchase pur-chase such business and to refuse to sell unless such identification can be furnished. With this type of help our problems would be greatly simplified and many thousands thou-sands of dollars could be saved the producers of this state, state officers offi-cers of the State Dept. of Agriculture. |
