Show 1 REPORTS GIVEN 4 ; ON REASON J FOR LOW WAGE One Chicago employer who! , needs more help reports that ex-G. ex-G. I.'s who went directly from school into the army and have no business experience whatever, want $35 and $40 a week. They angrily turn down $25 or $28 a , week, saying they are better off receiving $20 a week unemploy- merit compensation because it is , not subject to deductions and they .save carfare and lunch money t hey would spend on a job. These men feel, and say, that the veter- an is being pushed around, whereas where-as the economic fact, as this employer em-ployer points out is that without experience the veteran is not worth the wages some of them ask. The situation is unfortunate, ihecause if any considerable number num-ber of ex-servicemen entertain the false notion that the country is unappreciative of their war services serv-ices and sacrifices they will be easy prey for demagogues but it is as true today as it was when their fathers were young that only by gaining experience can they enter the better-pay brackets. |
