Show Art Unveiling Scheduled Tuesday 7 : School To Purchase Several Paintings From National Exhibit Closing Program At 11 :00 A. M. Will Feature Presentation Of Johnson $100 Scholarship; Aureole Award & Essay Contest Winners Aw ard The war cancellation of the Springville high school Art Exhibit did not lessen enthusiasm for the event, as evidenced evi-denced by the many visitors who have thronged the galleries gal-leries during the past month. Walker, principal of the Junior high school, who has been appointed high school principal, to take office at the close of the present school year. Nor did the interval which elapsed between exhibits retard the growth of the permanent collection, col-lection, as this year the high school plans to make up for lost time by purchasing not one or two paintings, paint-ings, but will purchase several pictures from the national display. This announcement was made on Wednesday by Principal W. W. Brockbank, who stated that all arrangements ar-rangements are not yet complete in regard to all purchases but will be completed within a few days. The closing program at which the purchase paintings will be unveiled un-veiled is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, at 11 a. m., in the high school auditorium, to which the public is invited. Six girls, representing the various vari-ous classes of the high school, will participate in the unveiling. If six pictures are unveiled, all will take part, and if fewer are unveiled, the classes which have raised the most funds for the Art project, will be given the honor. Joan Whitney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Whitney, will represent the Seventh grade; Mary Metcalf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Metcalf, the Eighth; Joyce- Harmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Harmer, the Ninth; Delores Childs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Childs, the Tenth; Hannah Adamson, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. David Adam-son, Adam-son, the Eleventh; and Beverly Hancock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Hancock, the Twelfth grade. The closing Art program will be featured also by presentation of the Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Johnson and family $100 scholarship to the most outstanding Art student in the Senior class. During the program also, the Aureole club award of $15 in cash to the outstanding out-standing Art student in the high school, will be made. In connecton with the unveiling unveil-ing of the purchase paintings, awards will also be made to the winners of the essay conteset conducted con-ducted during the April Art month in the Junior and Senior high schools, on the subject, "My Favorite Favo-rite Picture." The program will include fine musical numbers from the high school music department. The April 30th program will mark the close of the 1946 exhibit exhib-it which has been visited by persons per-sons from all parts of the state as well as from many states through- out the country. An example of the number who have taken advantage of the show to view the works of nationally known artists, was noted on Easter Eas-ter Sunday when more than 1,000 visitors registered. Included in the number who registered were persons from forty cities in Utah and from twenty-four cities outside out-side this state. Large groups and many indivu-als indivu-als are scheduled to make this last week's visits to the gallery. Included In-cluded among these are, the Ladies La-dies club from Salem, Wasatch high school and Richfield high school on Thursday; the county D. U. P., state school secretaries and Alpine school on Saturday. During the past few days, the galleries were visited by the Draper Drap-er high school on Wednesday, representatives rep-resentatives from the Bishopric office; Bonneville M. I. A., and the American Fork Rotary club on Tuesday. Other recent visitors included members of the Utah State Nurses Association, District Three, and the executive officers of the district dis-trict Lions clubs, and others. |
