Show By Frances Ainsworth gofij I had a very interesting experience experi-ence the other morning ... I went through the modern laundry in our town. All the new scientific" equipment equip-ment was amazing, and it was really fun to watch the girls at work! I stopped to chat with 3 girls who were pressing shirts, and watched them turn out a completely com-pletely pressed and folded shirt every 27 seconds! That certainly is surprising when it takes us about 15 minutes to iron one at home! You know, I'm always curious, so I asked the girls how they liked working in the laundry . . . and one by one they pointed out all the advantages ad-vantages the clean, light, cheerful cheer-ful rooms in which they work . . . the music playing for the girls' enjoyment en-joyment the good pay for skilled workers. One of the girls told me that she had worked steadily for over three years that a skilled laundry worker could always find employment. And then, too, many laundries provide group insurance at a very low rate and vacation with pay. i Well, I was quite impressed with these girls' obvious enjoyment in their work. t One of the girls stopped long 'enough to show me the rest room and it rivaled any big office building's rooms for cleanliness, modern appointment and comfort. You know, I think many of us have an idea that laundries are old- I fashioned that working in one ! is much like washing at home. But I certainly learned the difference! I A girl looking for a steady year j round job would be wise to look into the many opportunities in this field I'm convinced it's a worthwhile worth-while career. |
