Show APRIL CONFERENCE SCHEDULED AS BIG CHURCH EVENT Two momentous events in the history of the west the 100th anniversary an-niversary of the departure of the first company of Mormon pioneers from Winter Quarters, April 5th, and the 117th anniversap of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints, April 6 will be ob served at the church's annual conference con-ference April 4, 5, and 6. Centennial of the beginning of the historic 1000-mile trek from what then was Indian territory to the valley of the Great Salt Lake, will be noted at the conference confer-ence on .Saturday, the second day of the big gathering and it is probable prob-able that some other observance will be arranged in connection with the state's pioneer centennial of which David O. McKay, second counselor in the church first presidency, presi-dency, is chairman. By precedent, Sunday, April 6, the church's anniversary date, will be reserved for formal action by the conference, including sustaining sustain-ing of church general authorities. A new member of the council of twelve apostles probably will be sustained on that date to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Charles A. Callis.. A vacancy in the position of patriarch to the church, unfilled since last October when Joseph F. Smith, ill for many months, resigned, may be filled, with possible other appointments of importance. Because of the centennial observance, ob-servance, attendance at the conference con-ference is expected to be one of the largest in the history of the church. Hotel reservations for that period already are at a premium. Two sessions of general conference confer-ence will be held daily each of the three days in the tabernacle temple tem-ple square. |
