Show SCHOOLS SHOW INCREASE IN LUNCH SERVICE Number of hot, nutritious school . lunches served to Utah school children chil-dren has increased approximately 8 during the 1946-47 school year over last year, according to a report re-port recently by J. Vern Hopkin, Utah director of Production and Marketing administration. Sponsored by the Utah state department de-partment of public instruction un der permanent legislation, utilizing utiliz-ing commodities distributed by the PMA, the number of individual meals that will be served students this year is estimated at 7,350,000. A total of 6,947,300 meals were served in the 1945-46 school year. Through the PMA direct distribution dis-tribution program, more than $95,-000 $95,-000 worth of farm commodities have been and are bein distributed to Utah school this school year. These are products for which there is not a ready market or which have been declared surplus for military use, Mr. Hopkin point ed out. Meals are being served in 39 school districts in the state at an average cost of around 26c, Mr. Hopkins said,, explaining that where the students are able to pay, the cost to them is from 15 to 20c. The balance of the meal cost is made up from federal and state funds. |
