Show More Employees Hurt Off The Job Almost twice as many American Ameri-can workers are killed by accidents acci-dents away from" work as are killed on the job, the National Safety Council reports. Of the 48,500 workers accidentally accident-ally killed during 1948, 32,000 or 66 per cent were killed in nonoccupational non-occupational accidents in homes, on streets and highways, or in other public places. Disabling injuries befalling workers totaled 4,600,000 during the year, and 2,650,000 or 58 per cent of these occurred off the job. Despite the fact that off-the-job accidents occur on the worker's work-er's own time, they cost industry heavily. |
