Show Health and Beauty By , DR. SOnilA BBUNSON , J LACK OF CONTKOL CAUSES ILLNESS "Oh, doctor, I'm so tired all the time," complained a miserable looking woman as she sat all slumped down in her chair. "I sleep poorly and am not refreshed when I arise In the morning. Can't you give me some medicine to get over this?" "You must help yourself," advised ad-vised the physician. "I have made a most careful examination and find no trace of any organic or laxation. They are restless and nervous. They belong to so many clubs that they do not find time to read and enjoy good literature. Instead they snatch up the latest fiction which is frequently of a vile character. They do not seem to realize that they are making sewers sew-ers of their minds as channels for mental filth. The reading of such slush is lowering the moral standards stan-dards of our population. The craving crav-ing for excitement is driving men and women to greater speed on the highways. They seldom are content to remain quietly at home for an afternoon. If they can think of no other amusement they go to the movies no matter what the picture chances to be. Coming out they are often heard to exclaim, "I'm all unnerved. That was a gruesome picture; nothing but horrors from beginning to end. If I'd known the nature of it, I'd have stayed away and waited for something better." That shows the folly of not ever taking time to inform one's self before spending one's money. Some people are born of restless and emotional parents whose bickerings bick-erings keep the children in a constant con-stant state of unrest and unhappi-ness. unhappi-ness. Such children lack the calmness calm-ness and poise of those who come from well balanced parents, who were wise and kind in their dealings deal-ings with their offspring. Heredity and environment play a large part in the lives of all human hu-man beings; but though one has had a bad start in life, many disadvantages dis-advantages and bad habits can be overcome by persistent self -training of the mind and body. Overcome, if possible, physical defects and form the habit of calm, undisturbed thinking. There are wells of reserve power in all human hu-man beings which can be drawn upon for the control of behavior and emotions. The body and the mind must be trained by the substitution sub-stitution of good mental and physical phy-sical habits in place of bad ones. serious disease. Your weariness is caused by your method of living. For example, you are always on the go? After a hard day's work, instead in-stead of remaining quietly at home for at least two or three evenings a week, you go out either for pleasure, pleas-ure, business, or some social work. You keep yourself in a state of chronic excitement and activity. You do not take time to rest, to relax, to invite your soul." "I admit that what you say about my going so much is true, but you know the old saying that it is better to wear out than to rust out." "You are doing both," was the paradoxical reply. And finally the lady was dismissed with a prescription pres-cription after much wholesome advice." ad-vice." When the last patient had gone, the doctor sat down alone and wrote a short article for his paper, as follows: Human be'ings are going about in a chronic state of fatigue because be-cause they apparently have no common sense. They rush from place to place in search of that will-o'-the-wisp, pleasure. Some of them sit in a smoke-filled room playing cards and drinking cocktails cock-tails until the wee, small hours of the morning. Then go to bed with their brains in a foggy whirl, and do not sleep well. If they have to get up in the mornings and go to work they are neither mentally nor physically fit to discharge the duties du-ties of the day.
