Show WAR PRISONERS WORK WITH PAY LIMITED More than 110,000 out of the 141,000 captured Axis soldiers now in the United States, have been used to relieve the manpower shortage. It is interesting to learn that the prisoners receive eighty cents a day. Any wages above this sum goes to the government. While the prisoners work at the prevailing labor rates in the communities they serve, their compensation is limited to eighty cents. Enemy officers cannot be forced to work and non-commissioned officers must be assigned to "supervisory" "sup-ervisory" tasks, except where this type of work is not available and he requests ordinary work. |
