Show ,. Health and Beauty - By v . DR. SOPHIA BRUNSON If you desire the privilege of employing the doctor that you want, you had better get busy for that is a right that you now possess pos-sess that certain powers in Wash-inton Wash-inton have long been planning to take away from you. The prosecution of the American Ameri-can Medical Association had no other object in view than the discrediting dis-crediting of the physicians in. this country and ultimately putting an end to private practice. Long ago I warned you through this column of their intentions. Maybe May-be you didn't take it seriously. Unless the people of this country coun-try wake up, they'll find themselves them-selves unable to call the doctor of their choice. If you don't believe it, listen to this: A bill has been introduced into the Senate, known as Senate Bill 1161 (or the Wagner-Murray-Dingle Bill for Social Security). This bill would make available through the Social Security Board the sum of three billion dollars (which you would pay in in taxes). This money would be controlled by the Surgeon-General of the United States Health Service. He would become the dictator of American Medicine. The citizens of the United States would become eliigble for medical care under his direction. But a vast and expensive machinery ma-chinery would be set up to see that employed persons paid a pro-rata for services. It would be saddled on employers and employees. em-ployees. This bill would give the Sug-geon-General the power and authority au-thority to hire doctors and determine deter-mine rates of pay, establish fee schedules for services, decide on qualifications for specialists, determine de-termine what hospitals and clinics clin-ics may provide service for patients, pa-tients, dictate the number of patients pa-tients each physician is allowed to treat, and to give money to nonprofit non-profit institutions and agencies engaged in medical research or education. ed-ucation. This bill was introduced by the same German-born Wagner of New York who gave us the law that delegated all the rights, to labor but, as Quillan says, even "denies the boss the rights of free speech." It is provided that you may choose your own doctor if his quota of patients has not been filled. |
