Show Utah Pheasant, Quail Hunt Opens Saturday Indications Point Successful Season For Utah Nimrods With Bird Count Generally Running Higher Throughout State Pre-season reports from game wardens throughout the state indicate that ramrods who begin firing on pheasant and quail at daylight Saturday, can be assured of a successful season. According to Ross Leonard, the bird count . 6 m the southern part of the state, around Richfield and Salina, has been high. This year's season will open for five days in Utah county beginning Saturday morning and continuing to Nov. 3. In Uintah and Duchesne counties an extended 15-day season seas-on has been legalized. The bag limit varies according to counties. The northern part of the state, Cache and Box Elder counties, report re-port that the pheasant hunt will be above the average, while hunting hunt-ing in Utah county should be equally as good as in past years. Data on the pheasant and quail hunts appear in another column in today's Herald and should be studied by hunters intending to hunt throughout the state. Several closed areas have been outlined in the pheasant and quail hunting proclamation with those in this vicinity listed as follows: "(a) Columbia Steel Plant Bird Sanctuary, as posted on the ground, (b) Geneva Steel Plant Area, as posted on the ground, (c) Utah State Mental' Hospital the property prop-erty belonging to the Utah State Mental Hospital, east of Provo City, (d) Brigham Youn niversi-ty niversi-ty The property belonging to the Brigham Youn Unigversity of Provo. Pro-vo. (e) The Powder Plant property proper-ty at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon, as posted on the ground, (f ) American Fork Training School The property belonging to American Fork Training School, near American Fork." General provision as outlined in the proclamation include : "that the possession limit for pheasants and quail shall be two days' legal limit. lim-it. Provided, that no rifle, revolver, revolv-er, or pistol may be used in the pursuit of pheasants or quail. Provided Pro-vided that no shooting shall be allowed before daylight or after dark on any of the days open for the hunting of pheasants and quail." |
