Show SPRIG OF GREEN OBSERVED DURING BOOK WEEK Following the example set by Mrs. C. M. Redman of Port Arthur, Ar-thur, Texas, the" first grade children chil-dren of the Grant school under the supervision of their teacher, Mrs. Rea Straw and by special invitation, lighted panoses and placed a Sprig of Green at their base one day during Book Week. This special ritual, which honors hon-ors Alice Pleasance Liddell Har-greaves, Har-greaves, falls on Nov. 16, which marks the anniversary of the aeatn or tne real Alice or tne famed book, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." Also at this time the children made special observance of the National Book Week which was made especially delightful by Mrs. Floss Phillips, children's librarian at the public library, who told favorite tales and stories to the children. At the close of the program, pro-gram, the children presented Mrs. Phillips with an initialed pin marked "F," (F for Floss and for First Giade.) The children were then delightfully surprised with special refreshments of Rainbow Rain-bow cup cakes and Dewdrop tea. Folk dancing finished the day's program. |
