Hell Folks I It's a funny old world when a feller has to wait till he's three months old before he can see his Daddy. I'm the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Child. My name is Redginal Lawrence and they call me Redgy. I was born July 14, 1944, Daddy was in Laredo, Texas, at the time. He entered the service in April of '44. He went from Fort Douglas to Amarillo, Texas, for three months. From there to .Laredo, where he received his training for "nose gunner" on a B-24. After receiving his wings, he was granted a furlough. Six months had passed since he was home. I guess little guys like me will some day understand how happy a daddy can be at a time like that. My little sister, Sharon, had grown into a talkative little girl nearly three years old. She hadn't forgotten him, either, as he had feared. The tears of happiness that ran down her little face only proved how much she missed him. After Sister pointed me out as the- new little brother Daddy hadn't seen, I watched his proud eyes size me up. I smiled, and with Sharry's help, I told him all about myself. Daddy brought us with him when he returned to his new base at Lemoore, Calif. Now we are all at Walla Walla, Wash. I'm not so old or very big, but I think I have the best daddy in this old world. Sister and I love him very much. We are very proud of him for we know he will be fighting for us. He's helping make this old world safe again, so every little boy and girl will have their daddy home again. We know the angels will watch over him, for we, and many others, are waiting with a silent prayer in our hearts for Daddy's Dad-dy's safe return. |
