Show In Our Town... ERWIN L. SHEFFIELD Mr Sheffield is not. exactly a stranger to Springville, but actually ac-tually most people know very little lit-tle about him. So-we will try to give you the facts without be- nggtoo statistical and, at the same time, give Erwin a break. Among most people there seems to be a rather general impression that churchmen, clergymen and religious men, while thoroughly admirable in character and generally gener-ally well-Hked, are just a little Scking in manly qualities. Now his might hold true in some countries and communities, but not here. In the early days of the State our leaders were pretty rugged characters, men with the Sin, so to speak. From my otm knowledge of the present deration of leaders, from the Itake President on down, they match up pretty well with the timers and Sheffield m spite oi his youth, is "0 exceptiom SouUiVcific islands in the early 1900's is still remembered bv those natives who were fortune fortu-ne enough to have .wod- him. Erwin himself filled a month mission in the Southeastern Southeast-ern states and Florida. Born in Kaysville, Davis County, Coun-ty, he graduated from Davis High where he starred in the backfield of the football team. Then followed follow-ed studies at Weber College, the B. Y. U., and U. S. A. C. He served as second counselor in the Willard Stake Presidency at Fillmore, was a member of the Ward Bishopric in Delta and, since coming to Springville, has been appointed Bishop of the new Sixth Ward. He has been teaching for ten years and I believe he is sincere in saying that his greatest satisfaction satis-faction is in working with young people. He just recently moved into one of the new Brookside Park homes. An unflagging interest in all athletics, a charming and talented tal-ented wife and three little Shef-fields, Shef-fields, plus his love of work, should be more than enough to keep him with us permanently. Personally, I think he should announce an-nounce Open House one of these first days so we could all turn out and see his new home and really get acquainted. THE CATALYST |
