Left, Mrs. Edwin Johnson, chairman of the Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster contest, ( presents a check to first place winners, Lorna Sanford and Allan Frazier for their, works of art. Lorna' entered the elementary grade school contest and Allan, the senior sen-ior high school. Winners Named in Legion Auxiliary Sponsored Poppy Poster Contest Lorna and Larry Sanford, twins, son and daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sanford, captured honors of first and second places in the Poppy Poster contest m elementary grade schools, conducted con-ducted under the sponsorship of the American Legion Auxiliary the past few weeks. Ellen Louise Dennis, Den-nis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Dennis, received third place. In the senior high school, first place was awarded to Allan Fraiz-er, Fraiz-er, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Frazier; Fra-zier; second place to Kay Harmer and third place to Robert Chapman. Chap-man. Posters from the junior high school were all disqualified because be-cause of spelling mistakes on such words as American, Poppy and Auxiliary, although their art work emphasized the theme, Legion Auxiliary judges reported. In charge of the project was Mrs. Edwin Johnson who states that each of the winners will be presented cash awards at the next Legion Auxiliary meeting. In the meantime, the posters are being exhibited in down town store windows win-dows to remind townspeople of annual an-nual Poppy Day, Saturday, May 28. The winning posters will be entered en-tered in district and state competition. |
