Show Springville to Have New Ball Park; Finance Plans Underway Plans are under- way for the purchase of a site for a Springville ball park, it was announced today following a meeting of the finance committee and presidents and representatives of the various clubs. It is planned to purchase 10 '-i acres of kfnd directly west of Park Ro-She and convert it into a new recreational area, or ball park. The land is presently owned by M. D. Peay who has offered it to the recreation committee for $6000 and from the amount, he will contribute contrib-ute $1000, making the cost $5000, it was reported at the meeting. As the city has no funds with which to purchase the site, it is up to the clubs, civic organizations, organiza-tions, and individuals, in fact everyone in the city to assist with the project, it was pointed out by committeemen. F. C. Packard, chairman of the finance committee, called the meeting to order and asked various representatives attending to comment com-ment on the project. It was pointed out that the Memorial Me-morial Park would be ideal for junior jun-ior recreation but a ball park should be in another location. Mayor Cherrington reported that more land could be purchased from Arthur Finley of the present proposed pro-posed site needed to be extended and Paul Haymond gave the op inion that a goal of $20,000 should be the aim of the committee to establish an adequate park. During the committee meeting, a plan drawn by Dale Despain of the proposed ball park, was explained ex-plained by A. O. Thorn of the local planning committee, who also pointed out that more land could be purchased and the park made larger in the future. Hasting Smith, representing the Riding club stated that the club would sell their property west of town and turn the proceeds into the Ball Park fund and assist in all other ways possible. Ernest A. Strong suggested that banquets and other entertainment be given to raise the necessary funds. The Riding Club also asked permission to sponsor concessions on July 24, to aid the project. A. G. Peterson was named secretary secre-tary of the committee and Lum Holley publicity chairman with F. C. Packard chairman. The next meeting of the group was announced for Wednesday, July 21, when representatives from all clubs, church groups, and civic organizations are asked to meet with a plan for raising the necessary neces-sary funds for the park. |
