Show Marshall contends a man medical- ly insane cannot 'be executed even 1 though sentenced to die. ! Execution Stay Sought for Hayes SALT LAKE ClTT, April 18 (U,R) With just 11 days remaining" before he is scheduled to face a firing squad, George Hayes, 54-year-okl Eureka trapper, today placed his hope of avoiding the death penalty for the execution-slaying execution-slaying of Sherman Caldwell, Tooele county, recluse, on a motion mo-tion for delay of execution. Hayes' attorney, M. Earl Marshall Mar-shall of Tooele, yesterday asked the state board of pardons to postpone post-pone Hayes' execution date to permit a new sanity hearing. Marshall told the board he would produce important evidence not introduced at Hayes' trial in Tooele. Marshall said he would petition Gov. Henry H. Blood for a reprive to allow time for the hearing. Hayes was found medically insane in-sane but legally sane at the trial. |
