Show Lindbergh To Survey Air Power WASHINGTON, April 19 U.R) Col. Charles A. Lindbergh, called call-ed to active service by the war department to help the United States regain military supremacy of the air, reported for duty today. Lindbergh arrived at the war department before 9 a. m. He evaded newspaper men and photographers photo-graphers oy entering the building build-ing through a side door. He immediately went into conference con-ference with Major General Henry Hen-ry H. Arnold, chief of the army air corps. War department officials said they did not kn'jw how long Lindbergh Lind-bergh would remain in Washington Washing-ton but he was not expected to remain re-main here more than a few days before beginning an inspection tour of the nation's air facilities. After his tour he will make a confidential report to the war department recommending developments devel-opments which he considers necessary neces-sary to helj") this country establish estab-lish its air strength. The job, it was said, will take two weeks and for it Lindbergh was summoned from the air corps reserve. But it was understood that he Would be detained in active ac-tive service longer. |
