Show Accused Faints As Clerk Reads Wrong Verdict CLEVELAND, Feb. 19 (U.R) Oscar Hawkins was on trial for his life. The jury received the case, deliberated returned with a verdict. Common Pleas Judge Alva R. Coiiett received the sheet of paper, turned to the courtroom court-room and intoned: "Guilty of murder in the first degree." There was no recommendation recommen-dation for mercy. Hawkins fainted. Judge Coiiett turned to the jury foreman. "You failed to sign this verdict," he pointed out. "You read the wrong one," the foreman replied. "We found the defendant not guilty." Hawkins was revived. |
