Show BEET GROWERS' CHECKSARRIVE Sugar beet growers of Utah county will receive $77,277 in benefit payments from the federal government starting Thursday, it was announced today by County Agent Lyman H. Rich. The payment represents a $1 per ton to 1150 of the more than 2000 Utah county farmers who signed contracts with the government govern-ment to raise beets according to allotment. ' ' Distribution of checks to farmers farm-ers will begin Thursday at Provo and Pleasant Grove and will continue con-tinue through next week according accord-ing to a schedule. The checks are for farmers whose contracts were among the first two batches sent in January and February. Another $1 payment for the remainder re-mainder of the farmers is expected ex-pected during the first part of March, and a 36-cent-per-ton payment pay-ment on 1933 beets is expected soon. Another payment on 1934 beets will likely come in July. .Altogether, Mr. Rich said, about $300,000 will come to this section. .Following is the schedule, for dsitribution of checks: THURSDAY 1:30-4 p. m., Provo, city county building. (Includes Lake View, Vineyard, etc.) 7-9 p. m., Pleasant Grove, city hall. FRIDAY 9-12 a. m., Payson, Strawberry Waterusers office. (Includes all south of Payson.) 1:30-5 p. m., Spanish Fork, city hall. (Includes Lake Shore, Palmyra, Pal-myra, etc.) 7-8 p. m., Salem, library. SATURDAY 9-12 a. m. Lehi, Memorial hall. 1-3 p. m., American Fork, city hall. MONDAY 1:30-4 p. m., Springville, city hall. Goshen farmers who are unable to be in Payson to get checks will receive them later. There will be 150 of the 1304 farmers whose contracts went out first who may be disappointed in the first distribution, Mr. Rich said. There were 150 checks which did not arrive as scheduled but they may get to the office before the distribution time. Slips . for them have arrived. There are 1154 checks already here. - Specific instructions on the acreage acre-age that each farmer may plant will ti mailed to the individual s-on. After farmers receive word of the base acreage they can plant they are expected to get word back to the office if they choose not to plant their entire base acreage. ac-reage. The amount they do not plant is expected to be reported. This is in order that other farmers may make up the unfilled quota. Those farmers without a base acreage desiring to grow beets must apply to the county control committee, of which John Alleman is secretary. |
