Emmett Bird of Kolob stake in charge. Approximately 200 women fron-the fron-the Relief socieiies of the various wards began the work this week of canning about 7,000 gallon cans of tomatoes end peaches, as the initial step toward the project. Farmers and fruitgrowers of the community contributed 40 tons of tomatoes and 400 bushels of peaches. peach-es. The Springville-Mapleton Sugar company furnished sugar for the canning, while the Wasatch Gas company supplies free gas and the canning company offered the use of their equipment free of charge. The city, under the leadership of Mayor J. W. Whiting lent its aid to the project. , Arrangements have been made to use the cannery warehouse as a store room for the canned fooda and vegetables until they are needed. In addition to contributions of tomatoes and peaches, local growers grow-ers have also signified their inten-i inten-i tion of contributing liberally to the store of apples, onions, potatoes and other foods, committee members mem-bers report. The work of preparing and storing stor-ing the foods will be done by unemployed un-employed citizens, as far as poa- j sible.
