Show Schedule for art lectures announced for art: month The 36th annual April Art Exhibit got off to a fine start with the cooperation of the weather, when one of the largest lar-gest crowds to visit the gallery gal-lery on Sunday in recent years, registered April 3. The gallery will remain open through May 1, to include one more Sunday in the visiting period as this seems to be a popular day 1 for visitors. Guests have already registered register-ed from every part of Utah and several places about the United States. THE gallery includes a total to-tal of 179 pieces of art, hung in the three up-stairs galleries and halls. Of the total number approximately seventy paintings paint-ings were done by Utah artists. ar-tists. Others are from various eastern galleries and from national na-tional and inter-rtationally known painters from California Califor-nia to New York. Many of the pictures in the gallery tell a story if studied or if explained by one experienced exper-ienced in the art. An example is the entry entitled, "Revolt in the Moonlight," by Maurice Kish of New York. Hung on the north wall of the East Gallery, the painting is in rather somber shades of browns, and according to the artist, a Russian Jew, it por- trays the struggle going on today to-day in the human race to solve some problems. He uses the wooden horses of the carrousel car-rousel to tell the story, showing show-ing the animals struggling in all directions after seemingly tiring of going in the same monotonous direction contin- uously and getting ' nowhere, he asks, 'Are we humans to- i learn from the wooden horses ' : In contrast to the dreary at- mosphere of his carrousel is j another with the same subject, done by Marie Ridelstein of Oakland, Calif., which is titled, "Carrousel of Paris." This painting in vivid, bright colors tells a story of happiness and j celebration at a gay carnival j of today. j THE exhibit is open from 9 a.m., until 9 p.m., and an at- ' tend ant is at the gallery night- ly "to discuss the pictures in j the show.
