The truck train will reach Warm Springs at 1:30 o'clock. In order or-der that the exact time of the appearance appear-ance of the convoy at the city limits may be quickly and easily hcraldod to the citizens generally, it has been arranged ar-ranged that all the whistles in the factories, fac-tories, mills, machine shops, railroad shops and in every other establishment that possesses a steam plant with a big "tooter" Bhall blow in unison at the time of the arrival. It is planned that the blasts shall be continued for four or five minutes and the combined volume vol-ume of noise is expected to rival closely the reverberations that rent the air at the time Salt Lake received the news of the ending of the world war. It was asserted late last night that virtually every truck-using firm in the city had agreed to have one or more motor trucks in the big pageant. These trucks are to assemble on Second West street in a line extending north from First Jv'orth street and will fall in behind be-hind the convoy and proceed east to State street on South Temple street, up State street to the capitol, then down the hill and down Main street to Walker's field, where the convoy con-voy will park for the night. The "ship by truck" idea is held to furnish better than any other an impulse im-pulse in the business reconstruction that is destined to make greater demands de-mands on transportation facilities of the country. It is an idea that touches, its advocates maintain, agriculture, manufacturing and commerce. It is pointed out that the merchant who must have quick delivery is utilizing the truck, because of its power and its dependability to get goods to customers on short notice. In wholesale shipping getting goods from the factory to the railroad station aud raw material from the railroad to factory, or goods from the station to the wholesalo or retail store, truck freighting is now representing repre-senting a vast volume of traffic that is steadily increasing. The record of the trucks in the world war is a matter of history and after the signing of the armistice this industry, in-dustry, like many others, had to be poured back into the molds of peace. The winter of .1918 was a slack one for the truck manufacturers, for production pro-duction had gone beyond the apparent needs of the truck industr3', but as the knowledge of what tho trucks had done in the war became moro generally disseminated the need and demand for the trucks grew and today there is scarcely a manufacturer of trucks that is not behind in his orders, while all the large factories have planned that this year's output shall be more than double that of last. year. A "ship by truck" bureau has been established bv the Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., 31 West Fourth South street, for the benefit of all interested. Experts who are posted on the various phases of tho movement are in attendance attend-ance and will gladly furnish all available avail-able data. After the parade the members of the transport corps will visit Saltair, where thev will be served a banquet by the women of the Salt Lake Red Cross canteen service. |
