Show Chinese in Panic. JUAREZ. Mexico, May 9. An anti-Chinese proclamation posted on dead walls here caused a panic in the Chinese quarter quar-ter today and resulted in a conference of Chinese, Mexican and American officials this afternoon. The proclamations were dated at Maddalena, Sonora, and charged ail Chinese in Mexico with various serious seri-ous crimes. Chew Look, leading Chinese merchant, appealed to American Consul E. A. Dow for protection for the Chinese colony in the absence of a Chinese con-. con-. sul. The appeal was referred to the Juarez officials, who promptly promised the orientals protection. The origin of the anti-Chinese proclamation is unknown, un-known, but it is believed to be the work of Villa agents. |
