Show SHERIFF'S SON SHOT BY FLEEING PRISONERS 1 rJBMARS, Towa. Nov. 14. William Maxwell, Max-well, son of SherliT Maxwell, was probably proba-bly fatally wounded tonight when he was shot by escaping prisoners In the Plymomh county jail. Ills father, .Hugh Maxwell, was also shot; his mother was stunned by a blow over the head and his two sisters were locked In the jail. Tho men who escaped were Lee Barrington. Harry Smith, W. Cullon and James O'Keefo, captured by Sioux Cltv police after robbing the Westfield bunk at Weat-fleld, Weat-fleld, Iowa, on October -7, and William Convey, who was awaiting trial for attempting at-tempting lo shoot Sheriff Maxwell. The shooting and escape occurred at G:S0 oYIoi-k this evening as the Maxwell family were delivering supper to prisoners prison-ers In tho Jail. The sheriff, hla wife and the son were in a corridor leading from the kitchen of their living-rooms to the jail, and the two men were shot by Convey. Con-vey. Sheriff Maxwell was shot In the right side, but his injury is said to bo slight. |
