But for the prompt denial by the Associated Press of a false report that an armistice had been signed with Germany, the copper mines in this district, employing several thousand men, would have been closed down for at least a day in celebration of the event. An extra published by a local lo-cal paper using the news service at fault was circulated through the city, w hllo the news wfis telephoned to the score or more of actively operating mines In the district. Employees who have been working at top speed for a year and a half to get out copper for the nation at once decided to take a . holiday to celebrate.
