Playing with vim and pepper galore at all times, the first t naval training station football team of Seattle dofeatcd the crew from the naval station at the University of Washington here. Monday, the score being 9 . to 0. The game was played on a wet field, but, despite that fact and the fact that the losers had had but three days of practice, the fans were treated to a real battle. Stars galore made their appearance, and with a little more practice the team from the University of Washington will be able to give any team in the western , country a battle for their money. The r game here Monday saw stars from all parts of the country in harness, and the following men who represented the losing aggregation are from some of the best colleges in the entire country: Woodruff, center, played with the University of Missouri Mis-souri last year; Curtle, a former Stanford star; De Fair, from the University of , Nebraska, a halfback and All-Missouri conference man: Hofmeister, from Drake; IVhlpperman, from Cornell; Robins, from Lehigh: Packer, from Ames, star hurdler and grid star, and Wllford F.omne.y, former for-mer University of Utah star last year. "Woody" Romney, the former "U" star, was one of the bright lights of the game. In the first part of the second period, with the score standing 0 to 0, "Woody" made a seventy-yard end run. but his mates were not able to push the ball over the goal after getting within scoring distance. He played left halfback. half-back. The naval men at the University Of Washington expect to play Washington State. Camp Lewis, Bremerton and other elevens near here. The game here Monday Mon-day was one of the first this year, as the "flu" has caused a number of games to be postponed. |
