ORATORIAL SINGERS MEET IN REHEARSAL Many Come to Take Places of Young Men Called to Military Service; Organization Aljout Complete. Tf there bad been doubt in the minda of tiie management of the Salt .Lake Oratorio Ora-torio society that the singers of the city would respond to the call lo sing "The Messiah" this year, on account of the numerous activities growing: out of war necessities, that doubt was dispelled yesterday yes-terday afternoon, when 1 he society met for the second rehearsal of this season. At the first rehearsal an unexpected attendance at-tendance had greeted the director, but. yesterday so iarge a nd enthusiastic a body of the vocal elite was there that the company was announced as about complete. On account of a large number of the young men of the society having been called to the military service an effort had to be made to secure new men and train them in the music. The society managers express gratitude to those who have come forward to replace the boys who have been called away. Among those present In' Barratt hall yesterday were noticed many men and women of former local fame who desire to associate with the eociety this vear in presenting this great work, of musical and spiritual beauty, "The Messiah." Also were present many new singers in the city who have eLcewhere taken part in the oratorio and who are glad of the opportunity afforded to renew their acquaintance ac-quaintance and love with the. work. It was announced yesterday that, due to the fact that the majority of the members mem-bers were very well acquainted with the music, having sun it on several previous previ-ous occasions, tho new members would be required to learn the muntn at home and present themselves at rehearsals ready for the study of alngfnpr it artis- ..v... .-jj-wrti rupiano re hearsal has been set for next Sunday, preceding the peneral meeting. At yesterday's rehearsal the society prepared a new chorus, "All We Like Sheep lave Cone Astray." It Is stared Lhat ho capable are the singers of the society that the chorus was eung verv well at si3-ht. At the next rehearsal the chorus "Surely He Hath Borne Our Grief," will be taken up.
