Show EXTRA PAY EARNED BY SPECIAL SERVICE f Ruling by Adjutant General Touches on Mstter of Increased Compeasa-lion Compeasa-lion for Enlisted Men. Under a recently published ruling of the judge advocate general of the army, it is held that extra compensation can he paid to enlisted men of the army for "special duty," but that it cannot be paid to them for "extra duty" during the period of time that their increased compensation is in effect. The decision explains that there is a difference between pay for "snecial duty" and for "extra duty." It is held that the "extra duty" is duty in a line which does not properly belong to the enlisted man or his organization, but a line of work usually done by civilians, by contract or otherwise. For such work, if the enlisted man does it. he is not entitled to additional addi-tional pay from the government. "Special tiuty," It is held, is some duty directly pertaining to the welfare and , comfort of tho enlisted men. a work that should be done by the enlisted man or his organization and not hy an outsider, , hence if such special duly is necessary and is performed by an enlisted man in addition lo his regular duties, lie is en- tilled to receive compensation for such special work. |
