Parson, Par-son, a guard stationed at the bridge, when he refused to obey the guard's command com-mand to halt. The men were prowling about in the gulch below the bridge and when they continued to approach after tiie command to halt had been given, the guard fired four shots, one of which took effect. The shooting occurred about 10 o'clock. ! AssistantSuperlnti?ndent J. Arthur Rule of the International Smelting company related re-lated the circumstance of the shooting to Sheriff David M. Adamson yesterday : morning, who went to the spot below the : bridge and found footprints and traces of' blood, but has so far been unable to locate lo-cate the wounded man, who, it is thought, was carried off by his comrades further up the canyon at the mouth of which the bridge is situated. The bridge is the property of the International Inter-national Smelting company and is part of the road which is used for transportation transporta-tion purposes to and from the plant. Since tho declaration of war with Germany two g-uards have been kept stationed there day and night. Illumination is provided by lamps at either end of the trestle so that it Is possible to see down Into the gulch. 1 Sunday night's epleode was the last of a series of three of the same nature which ; have occurred near the bridge recently. , Last Friday night the guard fired six shots at trespassers who refused to heed his commands, and again Saturday morning morn-ing one of the guards was compelled to drive off a man who was found crawling1 on the trestle work on his hands and knees. j |
