Show WOMEN TAKE FIRM STAND IN WAR WORK Meet at Capitol and Resolve to Render All Aid Possible in Great Struggle. Determination of the women of Utah to render all aid possible to the government of the United States during the war was expressed in a resolution passed at a meeting in the capltol yesterday afternoon after-noon of women engaged in work in connection con-nection with the national council of defense. de-fense. Mrs. W. N. Williams acted as chairman of the meeting and Miss Elsa Bamberger, daughter of the governor, was its secretary. secre-tary. Secretary of State Harden Bennlon made the opening address, . encouraging and praising the women in their patriotic endeavors. About fifty leading women were present, the showing in this respect being re-: re-: garded as excellent In view of the fact that each represented some organization already in existence and working, in some avenue of help to the nation at this particular par-ticular time of stress. , In naming otiairmen of committees to act in the different seat ions of the organization, or-ganization, some were left until further advices from Washington shall -have been , received. This was particularly true as to the committee on women In industry. In the matter of the chairman of the committee com-mittee on food production and home economics eco-nomics and food administration, the meeting meet-ing decided to wait until W. W. Armstrong, Arm-strong, food administrator for Utah, is consulted. The chairmen named vesterday follow: Registration. Mrs. R. E. L. Collier; child welfare. Miss May Anderson; Red Cross and foreign relief, Miss Kate Williams! maintenance of existing social agencies, Mrs. Amv Brown Lyman: health and recreation. rec-reation. Dr. Jane Skolficld : Liberty loan,; Mrs. W. Mont Ferry; education, Mr. John A. Widtsoe; publicity. Mrs. Robert: Spangler. Mrs. B. O. Leatherwood was j named city chairman. |
