"The people of the Pacific, coast, states will support President Wilson in any measures that may be necessary for the defense of the United States." This is how Hiram TV. Johnson, former for-mer governor of California and United States senator, summed up the attitude of the people he represents. Governor Johnson arrived in Chicago today eu route to Washington. He was accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Johnson. Several congressmen! con-gressmen! including Julius Kahn, John I. Nolan and Eve'ris A. Hayes of California Cali-fornia and James H. Mays of Utah, with their wives and -ecrctnries, also were in the party. Most of them left tonight, for Washington. Governor Johnson was welcomed by a delegation of the Hamilton club and several persons. He declared that all was serene on the political horizon in California and thnt the progressive Republicans Re-publicans were the Republican party, lie admitted, however, that, while all tigers are tigers, sonic have different stripes, "T am going to Washington with an open mind," he said, "and expect to learn u lot. 1 cannot say now just, what I will do or how I might vote on certain cer-tain measures. T stand ready at all times to do whatever is necessary for the protection of the United States, and will support the president in any such measures.
