Show floods threatening ogdenm bus Spring Causes Weber Canal Ca-nal to Overflow in Southern South-ern Part of City. Special to The Tribune. ; OH PEN, AJ;m:h 29. Although the Vi ator has not reached anything like the danger point, employees of the city street department have noticed a rise in the Ogdcn river as a result of the spring temperature during the. past seventy-two hours. The melting snow in the foothills east of the city caused the Weber canal to overflow at several points in the southern section of the city today. A force of men from the street department was at work throughout through-out the day repairing breaks in the canal banks. The flood has not caused .serious damage in that locality. The rising water in the Ogden river today drove one gang of men from their work near Glen wood park and they were sent to a point in Glasgow addition to repair embankments. Commissioner .'hris Flygare, superintendent of streets, announced that, from now on' his men would keep a close watch on the river, in order to warn the people of impending impend-ing danger. He will erert a gauge board at the Washington avenue oridge over the river to keep an accurate check on the rising water. The rising temperature is said to have penetrated the snow crust in Ogden cau-von cau-von and valley, causing the snow and ice tn become soft. This section has been threatened by rain throughout the day, and rainfall is expected tonight. |
