Show COIEEE HELD ON wmwm Will Be Granted" if Power Company Meets the Demands De-mands of City. C. E. Groesbeck. manager of tiie I'tah Power and JJght company, met yesterday afternoon with tiie city commission with reference to the power company's application appli-cation for a franchise to orerate a heating heat-ing plant designed to supply heat for the greater part of tne business district. The conference developed the probability that the franchise will be granted if the power company will meet certain demands of the city as to increase of the power service already afforded the city free of charge. Recently, it has developed that the demands de-mands of the city for electric current have exceeded the free service supply and lias been a source of expense. The aim of tiie city commission is to correct this condition In its agreement with the power company on the issuance of the franchise asked. The power company is now operating under a franchise held by the Utah Light and Traction company. But little additional addi-tional privilege is asked than that franchise fran-chise now accords the holder, the major feature of the company's request being the transfer of the franchise right to the parent company. The plan of the power company is to unify, under the provisions provi-sions of the franchise, the big heating plants of the business district, making them interoperative, as the electric power plants are, and so insuring the service to all buildings dependent upon them at all times without strain upon anv one plant. This will involve underground conduits for steam pipes that will connect the various va-rious plants. The matter is still before the committee of the whole, so far as the city commission is concerned. |
