Among the items given out for publication today by the Overseas News agency was the following, concerning Germany's submarine warfare: Among ten steamers reported February Feb-ruary 12 as having been sunk was one English steamer of about 7500 gross tons, three large freight steamers, steam-ers, armed, and one unarmed English Eng-lish freight steamer of 3500 tons. According to reports now received from German submarines, they have sunk one English steamer, name unknown, un-known, of about 300 tons, with a cargo of pig iron and grenades; the French bark Hoeland, 305 tons, with salt and wine; the French sailing ships Confiante and Saint Marie, with ! coal for France; one steamer, with I hidden lights, of about 4000 tons I gross ; the Russian steamer Cerera, ' with 5000 tons of coal for the French admiralty, and seven steamers and ; three sailing ships, which together ! aggregated 22,000 tons. Reports from Lloyd's and other sources February 12 announced that day the sinking of four British steamers and one Greek steamer, of an aggregate tonnage of 836 1. Available shipping records do not contain the French ships Hoeland or Saint Marie. The Confiante was a vessel of S3 tons gross. The Russian steamer Cerera was reported re-ported as "believed" to have been sunk February 6. |
