Mudge yesterday when asked the direct di-rect question as to whether he favored supervision of railroads by state legislation. legis-lation. "I am opposed to making freight rates by legislative action. It takes a commission many months to arrive at a fair decision in a freight rate case .after the evidence is all in. Therefore, it must be apparent that a legislative body cannot can-not thoroughly decide a question of this nature in so short a period as thirty or sixty days." Mr. Mudge said that the above was the only expression he had to make on the matter at this time, and once a nd for all puts him on record as favoring any kind of legislation that is for the common com-mon good. "I am going to make a regular reg-ular statement some time soon on this question of a public utilities." Mr. Mud ere said, "and when T dn it will he worth something to those who are anxious to ascertain my views on the subject." |
